Resort Office Policy

In addition to our School Development Fund, Tree Planting, Solar Panel and Low Energy Stove and Life Guard Station projects our Gambia Resort office are also committed to Sustainable Tourism in a number of other ways:

• The Resort Team work with the Sustainable Tourism Partnership (RTP) who look at ways of creating work opportunities for Gambians as well as developing codes of conduct to improve the service they offer. The Gambia Tourism Authority, UK government and non government organisations including Travel foundation, Asset and other tourism related associations are also involved in this with us.
• This winter (2008/09) The Gambia Experience and other tour operators are going to run a trial on the Roots excursion whereby customers are charged D50 per person which will go toward the community projects to help with the reduction of hassle etc
• Excursions are run to our various projects e.g. tree planting, to show our customers the work we are doing and also encourage them to support us further.
• It is The Gambia Experience's policy to recruit local staff wherever possible, provide training and give fair terms of employment to ensure their long-term security.
• The Resort Team have participated in workshops with UNICEF on Child Protection issues and give regular feedback to local reps.
• In addition the office recycle wherever possible: paper and even their old uniforms to the local psychiatric hospital
• The Resort Team are, from time to time, called upon to give presentations to groups of students travelling to The Gambia
• Local staff training sessions are provided on an ad hoc basis.
• The fans given out to our passengers on arrival, although made in Mali are bought through a Gambian contact who gets a commission. However enquiries have been made of a local supplier to source hand made, locally produced fans
• Our passengers ar provided with bottled water on arrival at the airport; this is produced in a local factory
• All the flags used by The Gambia Experience are sourced locally
• Wherever possible environmentally friendly or locally produced products are used.
